Inspiration: Designing with Dark Colors

If you have been following along on our Instagram, you may have noticed that we have been trying to inspire you all to get out of your comfort zone and think about designing with dark colors. We work with a lot of clients and we know, it’s scary. We are here to tell you that it’s okay! Adding a dark color to a design can modernize and elevate the tone of a space.

We recently had a client who took and chance and trusted us (the best kind of clients) and we designed this home office.

The black walls and gold light fixture make this office feel modern and high end.

We are here, once again, to try to convince you to take the leap and think about using a dark color in your next design project. Maybe start with something simple, a black accent wall.

Jess from The Bright Green Door, shared photos of her friend Heather’s Modern Master Bedroom which featured a black accent wall. The dark wall is off-set with white bedding and gold fixtures to make the space feel very modern and sophisticated.

Here is a bolder bedroom approach:

This dark teal paneled bedroom is styled with mustard yellow accents and a patterned accent wall to make the room feel less dark. They also used a variety of textures to give depth to the space. This design is fun, funky and giving us all the feels.

Amber Interiors has done it again, this black tile bathroom is beyond perfect. The textured tile makes this accent wall feel dynamic and dramatic.

Are we convincing you yet?

If this California Beach House (yes, a California Beach House) can embraced this sexy black penny tile for their guest bathroom, we know you can be open to the idea. Also, those light fixtures are amazing…

Dark color choices can be bold and dramatic while still feeling warm and welcoming,

Try accenting the design with warm and natural tones to make the space feel inviting and comfortable. Or you can try using a more muted dark color like this gorgeous dark green to make a dining area feel like like home.

This mid-century home was modernized with a fresh coat of bold black paint. Caution, not all homes can pull this off..

You can even use black décor accents to modernize a home. Think light fixtures, furniture, and art.

We hope this has inspired you to take the leap and design with dark colors.
